Wheels in Motion!
Our recent skateboarding event was a rolling success, bringing together local youth and families for fun filled days of activities and connection.
Chinchilla Community Centre partnered with Hilltop Skateshop in conjunction with TRACC (Tackling Regional Adversity through Connected Communities) to bring this exciting event to local communities, creating an opportunity for local youth to showcase their skills, build confidence, learn new tricks and enjoy the sport in a supportive, family-friendly environment.
The event attracted strong participation across the region, with 36 attendees in Wandoan, 29 in Tara, 24 in Miles and close to 100 in Chinchilla, reflecting enthusiastic community support at each location.
Participants also had the opportunity to paint and design their own skateboards, which they could take home, adding a creative and memorable element to the day. With strong participation and plenty of encouragement from the crowd, the day highlighted the positive impact of creating spaces where young people can come together through social connections, stay active and have fun.
A special thank you goes to local catering supporters Cafe 4419, Foodworks Tara, Foodworks Miles and Drakes Chinchilla which helped make the event possible and ensured participants were well looked after throughout the day. Dash N Sip Chinchilla who kept our Youth Worker Injilay well caffeinated during the events.
Overall, the event was a fantastic celebration of youth engagement, creativity and community spirit across the region. The Chinchilla Community Centre and Hilltop Skateshop would like to thank all participants, families and supporters who helped make the day such a success.
Chinchilla Community Centre also welcome ideas and suggestions from local residents about future events they would like to see in their towns, particularly those that support and engage local youth. We look forward to bringing more opportunities like this to local towns in the future.
